Euronet launches EMV debit card in Pakistan

BBR Staff Writer Published 18 January 2012

Euronet Worldwide subsidiary Euronet Pakistan has teamed with electronic banking services provider MCB in launching the first EMV debit card in Pakistan.

Euronet Pakistan is the first EMV certified processor and gateway for EMV VISA debit services in the country.

EMV Debit cards have an embedded microprocessor that stores, processes and protects card holder data, including identity and account information.

The launch of Visa Debit EMV Chip card is expected to further enhance the electronic payment in Pakistan.

MCB country manager, Visa Pakistan & Afghanistan Amer Pasha said that EMV chip technology presents further security, reliability and a convenient way for making purchases all over the country and when travelling.

MCB has over 2.5 million debit card customers and about 650 ATMs in Pakistan.

The bank said that it is also the first in adopting outsourced EFT services through their migration from an in-house processing solution to an outsourced Euronet ITM system on Euronet Pakistan's PCI DSS certified infrastructure.
